2021 Reading Intentions
I’m kind of over resolutions at this point. The last twelve months put me (and everyone) through the wringer, and I do not have the mental space for lofty goals of any kind. I’m entering 2021 with open eyes. Instead of numbered resolutions, I’m seeking a 2021 reading vibe.
I want my reading life in 2021 to be varied and replenishing, full of books that allow me to discover more of who I am and what I’m meant to do and be. I want to gather recommendations from trusted sources, be more willing to put down a book that isn’t working for me, and be more discerning in what I pick up in the first place. I want to prioritize own-voices stories and support independent bookstores. I want to excise FOMO from my reading life, culling my TBR to make room for books that feed my mind and soul rather than hijack it.
As we wade into a year that is already fraught with chaos, let’s allow stories to be our lodestar. Let us hold to stories to keep us afloat and change our hearts, to motivate us into active compassion and advocacy. When we look at our shelves, may be we energized and invigorated, comforted and peaceful. Happy New Year, bookworms.
*A special shoutout to Anne Bogel and the Modern Mrs. Darcy 2021 reading challenge for helping me identify what I wanted my reading life to look like this year.
